This past weekend, I had the honor of making not one, but 2 birthday cakes for a very special birthday girl. Good friends, Sarah and Ed, celebrated their daughter's first birthday with a super cute theme... bubbles! I made a chocolate bubble cake and since there were 60 guests, I made a second vanilla cake to coordinate with the invitation.

Wow, this weekend just about did me in. I feel lucky to be able to create such wonderful treats for many happy occasions including 3 baby showers and a baptism this week. I really love the variety of themes. The dump truck and safety cone cake pops went great with the host's decor. The dump truck cake is actually gluten free, so the mom-to-be could enjoy something special. I had fun with baby face cake pops, by adding them to mini cakes. Thanks for taking a look!

Wow, was this a fun cake to make. Each layer is filled with cake: red velvet, chocolate and yellow. This was also the first time I tried adding mayo to my cakes and I really loved the moistness it added. They were very tasty and I will definitely be continuing with that recipe.

Bunny Slippers

If you haven't ever checked out My Cake School online, you're missing out. These adorable little slippers were featured on their site. I have been looking forward to making this mini cake for weeks and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. To achieve the textured slipper fabric, I ended up using a towel because I didn't have the shelf liner. Either would work well!

I just received my Illinois Business License in the mail!!! Just 4 You treats is officially registered and open for business. I have secured a kitchen to rent that is certified by the health department and will be receiving my food sanitation license this month. Now I can officially sell to the public. I can't wait to see what the future holds for my little baking business!

Today marks a very special day! Today is my daughter's first birthday. I know everyone says that they can't believe how quickly time passes when you have kids, but I have to say, "I had NO idea"! I remember the day she was born like it was yesterday. What an amazing year it has been. She is truly the most beautiful, remarkable and lovable little wonder that I am truly blessed to have as my daughter.

Now on to the treats! I have been extremely busy getting ready for the upcoming birthday party and my house has turned PINK! I won't be revealing too many details upfront, but here is a sneak peak of the cake pops that we enjoyed this evening!

Today I had the opportunity to make a cake and cookie favors for my cousin's baby shower. It was such a wonderful event, not only for the baby-to-be, but also to see all of the little "cousin" babies. In just 11 months there have been 3 babies born amongst my cousins. It is so great to have a chance for all of us to get together because my daughter's 1st cousins are 8-14 years older than her. It was a very fun day!

Chocolate Cookie Dough Experiment

I've had my eye out on several chocolate cookie dough recipes, but have been a little skeptical about how well they would roll out and of course taste. I finally took the challenge using Joyful Baker's recipe. I was really happy with the taste of the cookie. My husband said they tasted just like hot chocolate (I might just have to rename this recipe Hot Chocolate cookies). Rolling out the dough was a little trickier than my usual sugar cookie recipe, as the dough was much harder and rolled out better when it was room temperature. In the end I am excited to add this recipe to my recipe box.

For some odd reason, I have always had this strange superstition that odd number years are bad luck, so going into 2011 would normally bring a little apprehension. Fortunately, as we enter into a new year I am very excited about all the wonderful blessings I have in my life and am optimistic for a happy, healthy and terrific new year. Christmas Cookie Challenge: Wrap-Up

It's Christmas Eve and I'm officially hanging up my apron for a couple of days to relax with my husband, celebrate my daughter's first Christmas and enjoy the fruits of my labor. All in all, I'm pleased with my success this month. 21 days of baking... not too shabby for a full time working mom of a 9 month old. With this success, I am motivated to start the new year off with a bang and look forward to sharing my creations with you in 2011. I just love it when I set out to make something that I fear won't turn out well, but on the contrary, beats my expectations. When I set out to make these caroling cookies, inspired by Wiltons, I didn't know if they would stand up, let alone resemble the cute little singers. After adding all the little details, I ended up being really pleased with these cookies.

Inspired by cupcakes found out Glorious Treat's blog, I set out to make these chocolate cupcakes with peppermint cream cheese frosting. I had a really hard time with the frosting stripe, but they tasted great. I used her frosting recipe, but my own chocolate cake and topped them off with mini cookies made with cookie cutters from William and Sonoma.

Ok, so maybe this wasn't the best cake to tackle since I'm definitely a beginner when it comes to cakes, but I just couldn't resist trying this one out. I was actually really surprised at how much fun I had decorating the cake. The only real issue I ran into was preparing the cake for transport. Next time, I will need to do a little thinking in advance of how to get the cake to its destination. But all in all, I'm really pleased at my first cake!

To kickoff my 25 days of Christmas Baking Challenge, I started off with these cutesy Christmas Cupcake Cookies. Happy December!

Along with my commitment to 25 days of baking, I'm setting out to get 25 bake good sales. I hear all the time that I should sell my treats, but I have always struggled with "promoting myself", but I know in my heart that this is what I truly love to do. Sweet Turkeys

Ok, so these might be one of my favorite creations to date. These mini turkeys start with a simple vanilla base, topped with frosting, then covered with caramel and decorated with Pringle stick (drumsticks) and Chex mix (stuffing). What a great treat for the kids on Thanksgiving!

When I set out to do these Turkey Cake Pops, I thought they would be fairly easy... guess again. I am definitely learning a lot about using chocolate in my desserts and am starting to figure out what the right temperature is for the perfect pop!

Normally, I am all about Halloween and dressing up for a costume party is something I would usually be super excited for. But for some reason, this year, I just didn't have the energy to think of an elaborate costume. Some friends of mine suggested being Martha Stewart, but I didn't want to put the energy into being "blond", so I went with Betty Crocker. And best of all, I made some gingerbread mummies to bring along to the party.

Our Little Strawberry

Although Amelia was too little to enjoy the treats of Halloween, she had to have some of her own to share. I made these strawberry cake pops (made from Bakerella's new book). They were really challenging, but with some persistence, I couldn't be more happy with the way they turned out. And the red velvet cake I made them with, was the biggest hit.

I just love edible markers!!! I made these simple house cookies, frosted them with white royal icing and then reverted back to my elementary days and colored the blank canvases to make them look like these adorable little houses... What a perfect treat for a house warming party!

Luau Time!

I recently made these fantastic cookies for our bunco night. I think they fit the luau theme perfectly! I especially love the hibiscus flowers. The detailed stamen (flower's center) really make them extra special.

Like many of you, I have seen a handful the die cut machines on the market these days and have often wondered if I could ever make enough projects to justify the cost.
